I have an interesting Uni assignment to do. I have to write a 2500 word memoir about reading and/or writing. It's funny, because i had never thought about why i read- but when you do, it's interesting. Often it stems back to childhood, and it's fun to go back and look at what you used to read. Me? I was obsessed with the Baby Sitters Club, and funnily enough, Mills and Boon.
So, i pose the question: Why do you read, and what were you obsessed with?

That is a really interesting question, and a great idea for an assignment.
I read to learn and to imagine. I love to read stories and imagine what life is like in that situation, for that person.
I also loved the babysitters club, and after that Sweet Valley High. Good heavens I think I read a slew of those.
I read - and STILL read - for escapism more than anything else.
I loved the Babysitters Club too. Like Emily, I also loved SVH - we also had the point Horror and Point Romance series over here which I loved.
Then there was Lois Duncan books, which dealt with a lot of paranormal/supernatural themes such as astral projection and voodoo. I would still recommend those now.
